As part of the TMJ diagnosis our doctor does electromyography of involved muscles we are currently us cpt code 95868. I am finding that BC/BS is denying service because of provider type. Are we using the right code?

Hi southard!

CPT 95868 stands for: Needle electromyography; cranial nerve supplied muscles, bilateral

You may want to consider the following code if the description better fits the procedure you are doing:

S3900 - Surface electromyography (emg)

Hope this helps, have a great day!
