We have a patient that we did a biopsy. It was sent to his dental insurance and was denied because it is not a covered benefit. Can we bill it through his medical insurance and if so what is the medical code to use?

Yes you can certainly bill it through the patient's medical insurance, and there is a good shot at coverage in many cases. Let me know what type of biopsy was performed and I can offer you some coding options.

It was an incisional biopsy of a fibroma.

Ok great. Depending on where the biopsy was performed, here are some coding options for you:
40808 biopsy of vestibule of mouth
41100 biopsy of tongue, anterior
41105 biopsy of tongue, posterior
41108 biopsy of floor of mouth
42100 biopsy palate, uvula
42405 biopsy of salivary gland, incisional
