Do you only need a DME license for Medicare patients or do you need the license for all insurance, Dr. Hayes wants to start doing the sleep apnea appliance. Thank you.

Hi Dawn!

Not all insurers require a dentist to become a DME supplier/provider in order to bill for oral sleep appliances like Medicare does, this will vary from insurer to insurer.

If they do require that you be registered as a DME supplier/provider in order to bill E0486 (code for the appliance), it generally involves requesting an application from the insurer to submit.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any further questions.
