Hi,
Can you please tell me when submitting for pre-authorization which code is best to use?
Is it 21248 or 41870?

Where is the difference? Patient has 2 congenitally missing laterals of which bone grafting was done. Now, months after area is healed the patient needs implants. If more tissue is needed during surgery which preauthorization codes are to be used.

Oops, I meant to ask about 41870 vs. 21210 instead??

Thank you,
Dani

Hi Guest!

CPT 21248 stands for:
Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); partial(3 or less)

CPT 41870 stands for:
Periodontal mucosal graft

If both services need to be done, you will want to pre-auth both codes! If it is just the implants, then you're looking at 21248 for the pre-auth.

Hope this helps!
